Topping out on Mera Peak, 6476m
Topping out on Mera Peak, 6476m in Chilling -20°C, feel -30°C: A Triumph of Determination and resilience.
Mera Peak, presents a formidable challenge with its freezing temperatures, and high altitude. A group of ten embarked on a journey to climb this cold white 6476m high bump, but only three of us would ultimately make it to the summit.
The expedition began with high hopes and a strong sense of newly formed friendships among the ten adventurers. As the group was making the way up, the temperatures were getting lower day by day, and the altitude was kicking in making some more and more tired and ill.
After trekking for 8 days, the summit day arrived, and most of us set out in the early morning, bundled up in many layers. But the biting cold and thin air took a toll on peoples energy and some, rightly so, turned back.
Michal Galik and myself roped up with the guide pushed ourselves up the steep slopes, placing one foot in front of the other, and with fast pace overtaking other groups we reached the summit of Mera Peak. Majka joined us at the summit reclipped to another team shortly.
Standing on the summit at -20°C, I felt an overwhelming sense of achievement, happiness and joy.. The panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the mighty Everest, Ama Dablam, Manaslu etc were awe-inspiring.
While only three out of ten made it to the summit, the bonds forged on the mountainside and the memories created will forever be etched in our hearts. Sum
